Monsters with Chika!
These are some collaborative paintings I did with my friend Chika for a group show at The Untitled Arts Society called Ampersand 3. All the pieces in the show were done collaboratively.
I've shown here the paintings, but also some of the sketches that the paintings were based off of. The drawings themselves were done by both of us, with each of us beginning a sketch, and then switching books after random amounts of time until we agreed that they were done. We sketched 20 or so monsters and then chose our favourite six to actually use for the paintings. Which we have even sold already! Neat!

I like small things!
I got myself yet another sketchbook! This time it's a really little, really cute one! When closed it measures 4.25 by 6 inches. Here are the first few exciting things to come out of it!

I like drawing and coloring...

Here's some more sketches! The last one is done with some pencil crayons that my mom found at my grandmother's house. They must be at least 40 years old, and came in the awesome retro box and were probably the smoothest pencil crayons I've ever used! The colour went on the paper so nice and creamily! Anyways... that's enough about that...

Weekly Sketch Challenge with Chika Part 1: Spring
Soooo, a few weeks ago Chika and I decided to start a weekly sketch challenge where we would choose a theme that related to something that happened to one of us in the past week, and try and use new techniques or media that we wouldn't typically "sketch" with.
It is so far proving more difficult to keep this as a weekly exercise than we had anticipated! There's just not enough time!!!
Anyways, this one's just a spring-inspired pattern that I came up with and painted using gouache.

Sketchy Collab with Chika!
Sometimes Chika and I meet up at a bar and do collaborative sketches where we each start something in our own sketchbooks, and then at random intervals trade and continue where the other person has left off. It's fun to see what someone else decides to do with your drawing!

Here's some sketches old and new, that I'd like to share with you!

Yup, here's a bunch of sketches from my 8.5x11 inch sketchbook that I've never gotten around to scanning. Some of them are really old, like a couple of years...

Sketchbook Project 2011

Sooooo, this is a pretty neat project I participated in. There were something like 28000 Moleskin sketchbooks sent out and each person fills it in, using one of the themes as inspiration, and mails it back to the Brooklyn Art Library. They archive them and put them online, send them on a tour that visits libraries in major US cities, and then keep them in the Brooklyn Art Library. Here's a link to their website:
It was interesting sketching based on a theme. The theme I chose was "Science Project Gone Wrong," and as you can see, I used it as a very loose general idea, with some things really having absolutely no relation to it at all... Oh well. It was fun though. I even rebound the book with heavier paper so that I could paint in it, and included a few fold outs! Neat!
